SSL Take 2

What's more exciting than your own refrigerator of condiments - obviously someone elses!!  I was house sitting and figured i'd take advantage of a couple items i didn't have and then some others i love anyway.  I think i'll be checking out other people's kitchens more often for more options in the near future, it's pretty fun, because there are hundrends of differernt condiments and everyone likes different things and i'm sure the taste testing will get pretty interesting at some point real soon....

This Week's Contestants:
  • White & Purple Farmer's Horseradish
  • Hellmann's Light Mayonnaise
  • Marie's Lite Chunky Blue Cheese
  • House of Tsang: Bangkok Padang Peanut Sauce

I'm a big fan of horseradish period. I was a little discouraged by the date on both bottles, so i didn't eat a whole lot of either, just in case it was spoiled . . . . horseradish kinda smells funky as is so i wouldn't even know what rancid horseradish would taste like . . . . it tasted fine and i am once again here talking about it.

The light mayo was my least favorite. It didn't taste like regular Hellmann's mayo, it just was this synthetic mayo-ish flavor, which could have been what "healthy mayo" is supposed to taste like. I don't believe in healthy mayo alternatives - Have you ever read what's in real mayo?? how can a healthy alternative exist?

I was pleasantly surprised with both the Padang peanut sauce and the thick blue cheese salad dressing. The sweet and salty combination with the Padang was pretty stellar and addictive. The chunky blue cheese was great (if you like blue cheese dressing, try this with buffalo wings or something spicy, it's sooooooo good!).

      Sunday Safe Lunch

Playin' it a little safe the first time around........

I did some sampling a couple weeks ago with a newly purchased box-o-corndawgs from Target,  I really couldn't decide what i wanted to dip it in, so i picked a few condiment randoms from the fridge. This ultimately sparked the idea for the Sunday Safe Lunch segment

Grey Poupon (but of course!)                                                                                        Heinz Organic Ketchup

Jalapeno Jam (from Amish peeps in PA)                                                                            French's Yellow Mustard

I was pretty exited and very pleased with all 4 selections - yes, even the Jalapeno Jam. It's sweetness totally worked well with the salty corndog and the spiciness of the Jalapeno complemented the cornbread batter.  This Jam is off-the-hook on bread, sandwiches and even when mixed with cream cheese.

I usually am a ketchup gal with my corndogs, the ketchup was a little off - i blame the retroactive 5 month expiration date  and I don't usually consume much requiring ketchup.  Mustard is the old corndawggin' standby, dijon vs. yellow is merely a preference i tend to base on other items i may eat with the corndog, or what mood i'm in. either way you can't go wrong!

      Get your dip on~
      mia

      So now what?

It seems every reputable blog has some sort of gimmick or special segment avid readers look forward to, obviously besides the normal day-to-day content.  I figured maybe i need something to get me more involved with corndawggin' and get me into planning the big intro to corndawwgin' party for national corndog day.  I've decided to call it "Sunday Safe Lunch"and it's kinda too bad the sign has a hotdog instead of a corndog, but whatever, the message is key- PROTECT YOUR PALATE!

I'm taste-testing various sauces, dips, jams, spices, spreadables, etc. with store-purchased corndogs.  There's no real rhyme or reason to the sampling of condiments - maybe just to have an impressive list of things i've tried dipping corndogs into......maybe it'll develop into some kind of really cool dipping recommendation database with some kind of ranking system or personal palate suggestion??  I don't know......I don't know if there will be enough time.....

      HISTORY

way back in the winter months i was visiting one of my friends in Boston and we had to do some mall errands and there was this sign store and i was feverishly looking through stacks of random signs for something i never did find.........but i did come across this, which caused an instant laugh attack on my part and a bunch of odd glares from fellow shoppers. I've had lots of fun with this, now it's time to put it to use!

      funky fresh

I like getting mail.....people always  "say the more mail you send out the more mail you'll get in return".....i'm not convinced. All i get are bills, delias catalogs (haven't purchased anything since 1996),  and offers to get more low interest rate credit cards.

      BUT NOT TODAY!!

Wow, a real corn dog air freshener, mustard scented and all WOW!

Funky and Fresh indeed!  Thanks Tina T.!!!

¿como se dice Nathan's en español?

Just got back from vacation, oh crap it's been a week already? The carribbean hasn't really caught wind of corndawggin' as of last week, they're well informed. I guess they use cornmeal for other things besides deepfrying hotdogs inside it. Go figure. There were plenty of corn tortillas and a crazy amount of hotdogs, actually hotdogs were served at every meal including snack times at the resort. It was kinda scary how often they seemed recycled, but the last night a couple of us braved a few links outta the latenite snack trays.. . . . they looked fresh-ish......

The Dominican Republic wins my award for cutest airport ever. It was basically a free-for-all, pretty much all outdoors and all the roofs were straw/palm huts. Even the security was lax, which made me a little nervous, but i guess they kinda follow some parameters when this lady decided she's randomly rip my baggage apart in front of hundreds of people. Besides being a cute airport, they didn't have those accordian plane hallways, instead we got to walk out to our huge plane and take the stairs up to the cabin (i've only done that on small/medium planes before!) and they had a Nathan's hotdog stand,.....so i naturally got my fav battered weiners! That alone would get me back there in a heartbeat.

      thanks Tina!

a little while  back I was having a crappy day at work and decided to check my email and the weather for my upcoming vacation......and this is what i saw first.

i love this group of random comics on the sharing machine.

they should really make this one into a t-shirt, i'd buy one for all my friends and then throw a party.
